Top half: John Dee's Monas Hieroglyphica, 1564.
Bottom half: my version. Note that the intersecting Sun and Moon
create a Mandorla (Body Halo or New Skin), an almond-shaped Aureole,
which is also a Venn diagram representing the Sun and Moon's Child.
Bottom up: the fire sign is Aries (horns), which means the pregnant fire is asleep, incubating in the earth below the 4 material elements. This first sign of the zodiac is derived from the myth of Chrysomallos, the winged Ram with the golden fleece. The 4 elements are: earthen instincts, watery emotions, airy thinking, fiery intuition.
According to John Dee, the Dot is the planet Earth [from which Salt of the New Body is refined]; the outer Circle is the Sun [the sulfurous Soul]; last, the crescent Moon [the symbol for mercurial Spirit].
The alchemical Tria Prima of 3 eternal Metals.
(Note, the Line in the Salt symbol is an elongated Dot, and the
symbol for Gold or Sulfur has become a Triangle with a Point).
Alchemical Gold is hidden in the secret language of the "tongue of fire" (mythos), the Dragon sleeping in its chthonic lair of the Underworld. The action of fire upon the material elements gives rise to a New Skin (Mandorla), Spirit (Red Mercury, Wine or the Moon's Blood), and Soul (Solar Gold of Sulfur).
In my version the Spirit of the Moon is extrapolated into a quantum Wave or Field, with unlimited Points or divine Sparks. The Venn diagram is the Child of the Sun and Moon: an individual Imago Dei, 3rd Eye or Lucid Dreamer; a conscious Lamb of God, horns into a Crown sublimated sublime.
THE MEDITATING MONAD.
Horns into a Golden Crown (Sublimated Sublime).
The Monas Hieroglyphica, lower to higher:
the first sign of the zodiac, Aries on fire;
the primordial Spark, fertility and creation,
libidinal spirit behind instinctual action.
Horns of Pan, Cernunnos, Amun the Ram,
animistic myths of a long forgotten realm;
pregnant fire burns with its secret wish,
to wear the winged Pelt of a golden Fleece.
Adam, Eve and Serpentine contractions,
heavy atoms spiral into dematerialization;
in an Underworld trance via hypnagogia,
Hades' Dragon, Ouroboros of Chrysopoeia.
Above the grave of ancient Chrysomallos,
stands the Cross of the four elements:
our earthen instincts, watery emotions,
airy thinking, and the fire of intuition.
The Dragon rises, guardian of the Fleece,
upon the staff of the spine it sublimates;
distils water to Wine, our lust into Love,
airy logic to Bread, Light leavened above.
Amun become Ra, the Circle of the Sun,
pregnant fire remembers itSelf at dawn;
the Dragon's tongue devours the Cross,
Empedocles' four elements into 3 Metals .
The Meditator concentrates into a Point,
rises into the Moon's Crescent of Spirit.
A Venn diagram wedding of Luna and Sol,
the marriage of opposites births a Child.
Selene's Chariot carries the Observer,
elevating the Focus of Identity higher;
to become Three as One, the Tria Prima,
metallical Salt, Red Mercury, and Sulfur.
The intersection, a Body Halo, Mandorla,
contains the Wine and Bread of the Wafer;
the Dreamer's Third Eye now opens wide,
the Spirit and Soul in a New Skin saved.
The Locus of Identity becomes our Salt,
everywhere in the Ocean but also a Point;
individualized by the intinction of Wine,
the Serpent sublimates, horns to Crown.
